CRAWFORDSVILLE — Martha Lucille Thomas, 85, Crawfordsville, died at 7:29 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5, 2000 in Lane House Nursing Care Center, Crawfordsville. She was born Sept. 10, 1914 in Fountain County, the daughter of Harry M. and Helen Vall Patton Thomas. She had formerly lived in Kingman. She was a Hillsboro High School graduate, a 1937 graduate of Central Normal Teacher's College in Danville, and received her masters degree from Butler University in 1945. She was a school teacher for 32 years and two months, having taught school at Veedersburg High School and also high schools in Shandon, Ohio and in Peotone, Ill. She was a member of Kingman Christian Church, Daughter's of the American Revolution, Daughter's of the American Colonists, Retired Teachers Association, past matron of Eastern Star and also helped organize the Fountain Central High School Scholarship Fund. Survivors include: a brother, John William (Bill) Thomas, Veedersburg; a sister, Mary Louise Breeden, Plymouth; two nephews; three nieces; four grand nephews and five grand nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother and a sister. Funeral services were at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Shoemaker Funeral Home, Waynetown, with the Revs. Dorman Winger and Kenneth Majors officiating. Burial was in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery.
