“Waterman” – Dr. Dawn Thomas, well known about Cates died at Eureka Springs, Ark recently of consumption.
Dr. DR Thomas died May 5, 1893 at his home in Arkansas at the age of 52.  Dr. Thomas was a well known citizen of Parke and Fountain Counties. Having very poor health he went in October 1892 to Eureka Springs, Ark thinking by changing climate his health would improve but he gradually grew worse until his death. “Don,” as he was familiarly called was a soldier for three years in the Union Army, 21st regiment, Company H, Indiana Volunteers. He leaves a wife and six children, all of whom were with him at his death except one daughter who remained in Indiana when the family and doctor went south. The journey was made in wagons and was accomplished in four weeks. The family and relatives have the sympathy of many both in Fountain and Parke counties.
