Covington -- Alva Taylor, 86, a resident here since 1950, died at 3:27 p.m. Thursday in St. Elizabeth Hospital at Danville, Ill. He had been seriously ill six weeks. He lived in Veedersburg until moving to Covington. He was a truck driver most of his life and employed at Harden Motor Co. and Dicks Motor Co in Covington until retiring in 1959. Mr. Taylor was a member of Veedersburg United Methodist Church. A son of Winfield and Laura Davis Taylor, he was born March 23, 1884 at Stone Bluff. He was married to Blanche Covault, who died April 21, 1946. Surviving are six daughters, Mrs. Helen Misner of Attica, Mrs. Ruth Bartlow of Danville, Mrs. Dorothy VanPelt of Covington, Mrs. Winifred Haas of Hillsboro, Mrs. Opal Florey of Tipton and Mrs. Mildred Steuart of Muncie; three sons, Ross of Danville; Lewis of Covington and Lowell of Attica; 31 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren and two nephews. A sister preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 pm. Sunday at Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home with Revs. Edgar Allen and Eugene Rapson officiating. Burial in Cool Spring Cemetery north of Veedersburg. Friends may call after 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday afternoon and evening.
