Attica—Deon H. Swift Sr., 86, 604 S. McDonald St., Attica, died at 2:10 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, 1989, in his home. He had been in failing health one year.
He was born Dec. 4, 1902, in North Judson, the son of Jack and Daisy Moser Swift. He was married April 5, 1923 in Paris, Ill., to Thelma Louise Starr, who preceded him in death April 18, 1975.
He had resided in the Danville, Ill. area before moving to Attica 65 years ago. He graduated from Casey, Ill. High School and Brown and Utterback College, Danville, Ill.
He had been superintendent in the maintenance department at Harrison Steel Castings Co., Attica, retiring in 1966.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Attica, Scottish Rite, Valley of Indianapolis, a member and past patron of Attica Chapter 125 Order of Eastern Star and a member and past master of Wabash Lodge 708 F&AM.
Surviving are two sons, Deon Jr. and W. Richard “Dick” both of Attica; five grandchildren, Deon “Butch” Swift II, Scot Swift, Tarri Brickler, Barri Swift and Carri Swift and six great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Joseph.
Friends may call from 5-9 p.m. today (Tuesday) at Maus Funeral Home, Attica, with Wabash Lodge 708 conducting Masonic memorial services at 8:30 p.m. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Maus chapel with Pastor Edward Bennett and Dr. Earl D.
