Irve Swaim, 62, well known farmer
and stock buyer of Tangier, was seriously injured in a head-on collision
Thursday evening about 4:30 o’clock. He was en route from Paris, Ill., to his
home and was on the Paris-Clinton road. His 1938 Chevrolet coach and a 1937
Chevrolet coupe driven by a Mr. Elam of Paris, were demolished. An ambulance
from Paris took both men to a Paris hospital and as they were lone relatives
did not receive word for several hours. Mr. Elam passed away Friday morning at
10 o’clock. An operation was performed Friday in an attempt to save Mr. Swaim’s
life, X-ray pictures showed one leg broken in two places, a shattered arm,
broken collar bone, broken ribs, and internal injuries. His wife, Mrs. Pearl
Swaim and daughter, Mrs. Pauline Deal, both of Tangier are staying at Paris to
be near him. – jlr
