SUMMERS, Alsey Harrison - Fountain County INGenWeb Project

Alsey Summers, the subject of this sketch was born in Lewis county, Kentucky, April 27 1821, died at her home two miles southwest of Wallace, Nov 19 1901. Mrs. Summers whose maiden name was Harrison emigrated to this county in the autumn of 1828. She was married to Gilbert Clark April 29 1841. To this union were given four girls, Melinda, first wife of Wm. Summers, Lorena, wife of Thomas Cunningham, Rebecca, wife of Thomas Hamilton and Jamima, wife of A. E. Hensley; all of whom survive excepting Mrs. Summers. Her first husband died about fifty years ago. She was married to Elijah Summers, Feb 12 1857. To them was born three sons and one daughter -- Elijah, Robert, Joseph and Dora. All are now living except Elijah. She has three sisters and two brothers who are far in their declining years who have outlived their dear departed sister. We need not enter upon encomium concerning the life and character of the deceased. her daily life was an open book; in her business or in the performance of neighborly obligations, she was the4 same patient, honorable and upright woman, ever applying to her daily life the teaching of the Golden Rule. Such were the characteristics that stamped the life of this ideal woman that for we to attempt to eulogize her character would fall far short of her merit. I have only briefly stated what her acquaintances know abundantly. Funeral services were held at the residence conducted by Rev. C. L. Airhart after which interment took place in Wolfe Creek cemetery, accompanied by numerous relatives and friends. She leaves three sisters, two brothers, six children, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren to mourn her loss. We tender the bereaved family our heartfelt sympathy in this sad event, which has deprived them...........................(sorry - rest is missing).
