SULLIVAN, Arthur M. - M.D.

Local citizens were shocked Saturday noon when word was received that Dr. Arthur M. Sullivan, 62, former Veedersburg resident had passed away at the hospital in South Bend.
Dr. Sullivan was born in Veedersburg on August 7, 1880 (Note: Death Record says 9 August 1880) and spent his entire youth in this community, graduating from Veedersburg HS in the class of 1900. In early life, he distinguished himself as an athlete and became well known locally as a most proficient bicycle rider and high jumper. He attended Indiana Medical College received his MD there and later took another degree at RUsh College and psot graduate studies at the College of NY City.
He located in Attica and practiced medicine there for 14 years and succesfully practiced in South Bend the past 21 years. His fatal illness started last February with a stroke of paralysis and he had since been confined in the St. Joseph Hospital in South Bend in a helpless condition. His immediate death was caused by a cerebral hemorrhage on November 27 from which he failed to rally.
He was the son of James and Kate Ragan Sullivan, being one of 12 children, six of whom in addition to his parents, had preceded him in death, the most receing being a sister, Margaret who passed away 3 years ago in Veedersburg. He is survived by the wife, one son, James who flew to the services from Washington DC and one daughter, Mrs. WD Sullivan of CHicago; one sister, Mrs. WP Fanning of Los Angeles; four brothers, John of Valparaiso; Leo of MIami Fla; Dr. Paul of Attica and Henry of Veedersburg. Dr. Sullivan was also an uncle of Patricia Anne and Barbara Jean Quinlan of Indianapolis and Mickey Quinlan now serving as a Pvt First Class in the US Marine Air Corps somewhere in the SW Pacific. Funeral services were held Monday morning (sorry rest gone)
