Covington—Glenn “Beck” Strawser, 66, died at 9:35 p.m. Friday, June 23, 1989 at Carle Hospital, Urbana, Ill.
  He was born Aug. 25, 1922 at Collison, Ill., the son of Alva and Inez Wilder Strawser. He was married Oct. 12, 1952 to Martha Mae Higbee, who survives.

  He was a Covington resident most of his life and a 1942 graduate of Covington High School.

  He was central office technician with Indiana Bell for 31 years, retiring in 1985, and served on the Covington City council from 1972 until 1980. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the 671st engineers in the Pacific.

  He was a life member of the VFW Post 2395 and a member of the Telephone Pioneers and Last Chance Bowling League.
  He was an avid bowler, fisherman and gardener.

  Surviving besides his wife are three daughters, Mrs. James (Delores) Stellis, Northbrook, Ill.; Mrs. Bill (Karen) Dockins, Hammond, and Mrs. Bill (Cynthia) Hehmann, Kingman; three sons, Eugene Strawser, Elk Grove Village, Ill.; Richard (Sharon) Roberts and Michael E. Strawser, both of Covington; 11 grandchildren and two sisters, Juanita White, Kingman, and Anna Rose Smith, Covington. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two grandsons.

  Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Monday at Shelby Funeral Home, Covington, with Max Paddock officiating. Burial was in Mount Hope Cemetery, Covington, with military graveside services. – thanks to s
