Attica – Russell W. Stokes, 88, formerly of Rt 1, Attica, died at 9 a.m. Saturday in St. Elizabeth Hospital, Lafayette. He had been living at Woodland Manor Nursing Home here since 1984. Born in Vermilion County, Ill July 28, 1896, he lived in Fountain County most of his life. He resided near Newtown for several years and in Westminster Village, West Lafayette for eight years. He was married Aug 6, 1923 in Newtown to Hattie Mae Shultz Dinwiddie, who died in May 1969. Mr. Stokes farm most of his life, worked as a custodian for Dri-All Inc, for several years and drove a school bus for Richland Township Schools. He was a member of Newtown Community Church and had served as Sunday School Superintendent for several years. He was a 50-year member of Richland Masonic Lodge 105. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Albert “Peck” Kathryn Cushman of Rt 1, Attica and two stepsons, Rev. George Dinwiddie of West Lafayette and Clark Dinwiddie of Rt 1, Attica.

“Funeral Notices” – Stokes, Russell V – Friends will be received at Maus Funeral Home, Attica, 5-9 p.m. today. Service in Maus Chapel 2 p.m. Monday, the Rev. Millard Sivley officiating. Interment Newtown Cemetery. Surviving are 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and one great grandchild. A sister, 2 granddaughters and one great granddaughter preceded in death. Those desiring may contribute to the Music Fund of Newtown Community Church. – kbz
