Mrs. Bessie (Fewry) Stoke, 53, of 812 ½ Brown Street died Saturday night at Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis, where she had been a patient 9 days. She had been ill 7 weeks. Born at Yeddo in Fountain County, she married John Stokes in 1943. She was a member of the Attica Methodist Church and resided in Attica until 1948 when she moved to this city. Surviving are the husband; three brothers, Roy and Grant Fewry of Attica and Ray Fewry of South Bend; three sisters, Mrs. Dessie Mortimor of South Bend, Mrs. Pearl Hepler of Sterling and Mrs. Maude Helms of Veedersburg. - kbz

Mrs. Bessie Fewry Stokes of Lafayette former resident of Attica died at 10 p.m. Saturday at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis where she had been a patient 9 days. She had been in ill health 7 weeks. Mrs. Stokes was born June 24, 1903 at Yeddo, daughter of John and Mary E. Fewry. She was married Feb 15, 1943 to John Stokes and he survives. She was a life resident of Attica until moving to Lafayette in 1948.  Also surviving are 3 brothers, Roy and Grant of Attica and Ray of South Bend and three sisters, Mrs. Dessie Mortimore of South Bend, Mrs. Pearl Hepler of Sterling, Ind and Mrs. Maude Helms of Veedersburg. She was preceded in death by a sister. Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Merryman Funeral Home with Rev. Wilbert M. Littrell officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery. – kbz
