COVINGTON — Harold G. Stockdale, Sr., 80, 121 Second St., Covington, died at 7:20 p.m. Friday, July 28, 2000 in Provena USMC Logan Campus, Danville, Ill. He was born Feb. 15, 1920 in Hillsboro, the son of Guy H. and Leona Marie Wilson Stockdale. He married Ruby Ella Sewell Feb. 26, 1944. She preceded in death May 28, 1975. He married Mary Gail West March 11, 1977. She preceded in death April 15, 1997. He was a graduate of Hillsboro High School in 1938 and Purdue University short course in 1941. He retired from a lifetime of farming in the Hillsboro, Brookston and Veedersburg areas. He was a Wabash Township 4-H leader, Fountain County 4-H Council and Assistant Soil Conservation Supervisor in the 1960s. He was a member of Coopers Chapel Community Bible Church 40 years and served as superintendent, and a 50-year member of Hillsboro Lodge #385 F. & A.M. Survivors include: three sons, Harold G. (Judy) Stockdale, Jr., Waynetown, Daniel (Francine) Stockdale, Barberton, Ohio and Joseph (Dianne) Stockdale, Toledo, Ohio; a daughter, Susan (Scott) Abernathy, Reno, Nev.; two step sons, Gary (Leigh) West, Veedersburg and Kenneth West, Indianapolis; two brothers, George (Jeri) Stockdale, LaMesa, Calif. and Gale (Beverly) Stockdale, Covington; and two sisters, Verna (Lewis) Toby, San Diego, Calif. and Sandra (Charles) McKinney, Hillsboro; seven grandchildren; three step grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today (Wednesday) in Shelby Funeral Home, Covington, with the Rev. James Shaw officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Covington. Memorials may be made to Coopers Chapel Church. – jlr
