James Lewis (Lew) Stockard, 88, passed away at his residence, Rt. 2 Williamsport (Marshfield), at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 7, 1976, very suddenly of an apparent heart attack. He had been in failing health for the past few years. He was born in Philo, Ill., on August 30, 1888, son of Homer and Mary Swartz Stockard. He had lived near Sidell and Georgetown, Ill., before moving to Marshfield in 1941. He was married January 27, 1909 in Bismark, Ill., to Pearl Smith who survives. He had been a farmer all his life. He was a member of the Marshfield Presbyterian Church and was active in church affairs. He was a member of Modern Woodman Lodge, also, F&AM Lodge at Hedrick and 50-year member of Steuben Township Farm Bureau. Surviving besides his wife are: two sons, Dale Stockard of Danville, Ill., and Dean Stockard of Champaign, Ill.; two granddaughters, Mrs. Phyllis Wilson of Perrysville and Mrs. Katie Dunavan of Bismark. There are eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, one brother, one sister and one grandson. Funeral services were held at the Fisher Funeral Home in West Lebanon at 2 p.m. Wednesday, with Rev. William Thompson officiating. Interment was at the West Lebanon Cemetery. --typed by Walt W
