Lafayette—Thomas H. “Tom” Steiner, 68, 1025 Joseph St., Lafayette, died at 11:27 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, 1989, in Indiana Veterans Home, after a lengthy illness.
He was born Feb. 15, 1920, in Battle Ground. He was a lifelong resident of the area and had lived at the Veterans Home since June. He was married June 26, 1948, in Mulberry, to Aletha M. Garriott, a former employee of Purdue University and L. S. Ayres, who survives.
He was a press operator with Peerless Wire Goods and 39 ½ years, retiring in 1979.
He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, where he formerly was a deacon and Sunday school teacher, and he was an honorary member of St. James Men’s Club. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and a member of American Legion Post 11 and Veterans of Foreign Wars 1154.
Surviving, besides his wife, are two sons, Matthew, Lafayette, and Michael, West Palm Beach, Fla.; three daughters, Virginia Steiner, Lafayette; Mrs. Craig (Nancy) Kroll, West Lafayette, and Mrs. Richard (Beth) Lancaster, Lafayette; five sisters, Mrs. Richard (Anne) Kemery, Fremont; Mrs. Jimmie (Selma) Moore, West Point; Mrs. Wayman (Kathryn) Troxel, Hillsboro; Mrs. George (Hazel) Braun, Crawfordsville, and Mrs. Henry (Virginia) Wagner, Winamac; three brothers, Robert, Connersville; John, West Lafayette, and Joe, Lafayette, and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
Friends may call from 5-9 p.m. today (Friday) at Hippensteel Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Hippensteel Chapel with Pastor John Herfurth officiating. Entombment will be in Tippecanoe Memory Gardens Mausoleum.
