Margaret Ann Roach Starnes widow of John Starnes was born June 15, 1848 in Howard Twp, Parke County, Indiana and departed this life at her home in Jackson Twp, Fountain County Sat Jan 26, 1929 at the age of 80 years 7 months and 11 days. She attended the district school in the township of her birth and became very proficient in the three r's becoming one of the champion spellers of her day. At the age of 16 years 7 months and 24 days she went to the marriage altar with John Starnes on Feb 9, 1865. They plighted together their lives in a solemn way to share life's duties together which vow they kept inviolate for 58 years 6 months and 19 days. Just as the dawn of another day on the morning of Aug 28th, 1923 her companion slipped silently and gently into the land of the Great Beyond from whence no travelr returns. Margaret reamined in the old home with her daughters until the end came Jan 26, 1929 when she quietly passed away. To this union 8 children were born: two sons, Alva V. and Henry Lawrence and one daughter were taken from them in infancy while Iva D. and Alexnander C. in more recent years have preceded their mother to the great beyond where they have waited her coming. In the year 1870 she professed faith in Jesus as her saviour and with her husband united with the UB Church at Bufalo near her home. She was a good woman and her life has been an inspiration to her children and grandchildren for up right living which is the most valuable inheritance they can receive. Margaret, as she was known to her friends was a good neighbor always ready to do more than her part. She was a devoted wife and mother. Home will never be again as it always has been. Her ? are gone and her voice is silent but God saw best to call her to her final home. At the last resting place of their loved departed mother sorrowing children and grandchldren have erected a monument of imperishable granite.
