Henry I. Starnes 88, of Hillsboro, died at 10:45 a.m. Monday in the Rudisill Nursing Home at Crawfordsville. He was in the newspaper business for a number of years and when a young man published weeklies in Hillsboro, Waynetown and Wingate. He was also employed in the circulation department of the Indianapolis News and the Crawfordsville Review. Mr. Starnes served two terms as Fountain County Treasurer and was postmaster in Hillsboro for several years. He was a member of the Hillsboro Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge and Fern Chapter O.E.S. Born Feb 13 1872, near Hillsboro, the son of Charles and Mary Edwards Starnes. He was married Aug 25 1892 to Flora Temple of Wingate. Mr. and Mrs. lived all of their married life in this community except 8 years when they lived in Covington. Mrs. Starnes died last Dec 20 (1959). Surviving are two sons, Harry of Crawfordsville; Fred of Waynetown; a daughter Mrs. Ethel Dwiggins of Leesburg Ind.; a brother Lewis Starnes and a sister, Mrs. Effie Gray both of Hillsboro; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Crumley Funeral Home here with Rev. Sheldon Garriott in charge. Interment will be in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. The Hillsboro Masonic Lodge will conduct graveside rites. Friends may pay their respects at the funeral home. (pic)

Crawfordsville – Funeral services for Henry Starnes, 88 years old, retired newspaper publisher will be held at 2 p.m. today in the Crumley Funeral Home at Hillsboro. Burial will be in the Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. A native of Fountain County, Mr. Starnes died Monday in a Crawfordsville Nursing home. Mr. Starnes published weekly newspapers in Waynetown and Wingate in Montgomery County and Hillsboro in Fountain County. He also was former Hillsboro Postmaster and former Fountain County treasurer.  He formerly worked in the circulation department of the Indianapolis News and the Crawfordsville Journal and Review. Mr. Starnes was a member of the Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge and Order of Eastern Star in Hillsboro. Survivors include two sons, Harry Starnes of Crawfordsville and Fred Starnes of Waynetown; a daughter, Mrs. Ethel Dwiggins of Leesburg; a brother, Lewis Starnes of Hillsboro; 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
