Waynetown - Charles Fredrick "Fred" Starnes, 85 of rural Waynetown died at 5:45 p.m. Monday in Veterans Hospital at Danville, Ill.  Mr. Starnes retired in 1963 after teaching in area school systems for many years.  He taught at West Lebanon, Hillsboro and New Ross Schools.  He was a veteran of World War I.  He was a member of Hillsboro Masonic Lodge and Order of Eastern Star and Crawfordsville's Knights Templer. He was a charter member of the Hillsboro American Legion Post. He attended Hillsboro United Methodist Church.  He was a 1916 graduate of Hillsboro HS and 1933 graduate of Central Normal College at Danville, Ill.  Born May 16, 1906 (very hard to read), east of Hillsboro he was a son of Henry T. and Flora Temple ? Starnes.  He was married to Gladys Cult of Danville, Ill June 21, 19? (26?) she survives.

Also surviving are a brother, Harry of Morton ? a sister, Mrs. John (Ethel) Dwiggins of Goshen; a cousin, Mrs. Bernice Bounnell of Waynetown; four nieces; four nephews.  Services are scheduled at 1:30 p.. Thursday in Thomas Funeral Home at Waynetown with Rev. Dorman Winger officiating.  Burial will be in Waynetown Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. Wednesday.  Masonic rites will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home by the Hillsboro Lodge. - kbz
