VEEDERSBURG — James A. Starling, 80, Veedersburg, died at 9:05 a.m. Saturday, June 30, 2007 in Williamsport Health & Rehabilitation Center. He was born Dec. 31, 1926 in Roxanna, Ill., the son of James M. and Marie (Watson) Starling. He married Eleanor Kaczmarek Oct. 8, 1950 in Chicago. She survives. He was a 1944 graduate of Marion, Ill. High School, and attended Southern Illinois University. He served in the Navy in World War II. He was employed at General Electric in Danville for 32 years retiring in 1987. He resided in the Coopers Chapel area since 1980 and formerly resided in Danville and Chicago. He was a member of Cates Community Church and Fountain County Farm Bureau Board of Directors from 1994 to 2006. He belonged to “Abraham Lincoln Presenters” where by he spoke at schools, churches, nursing homes, and other groups, including 18 years at the Vermilion County Museum. In the early 1990s he was an anti-abortion activist and was arrested at several abortion clinics around the country for blocking the doors. He was against the killing of the innocent unborn babies. He loved God, his family, and his country. Survivors, besides the wife, include: three children, David (Kathy) Starling, Noblesville, Barbara (Ronald) Mentock, St. Joseph, Ill., and Keith (Connie) Starling, DeValls Bluff, Ark., nine grandchildren; and four sisters, Genevieve (Norman) Barks, Piedmont, Mo., Rose Prickett, Marion, Ill., Virginia (Ralph) Crites, Piedmont, Mo., and Dorothy (Charles) Herren, Marion, Ill. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. A celebration of Jim's life was at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Shelby Funeral Home, Covington, with Donald Hesler officiating. Burial was in Coopers Chapel Cemetery with military honors by the American Legion and V.F.W. – jlr
