Covington - William E. Starkey, 73, a former Covington businessman, died at 11:25 p.m. Saturday in St. Elizabeth Hospital at Danville, Ill. He had been in failing health the past 7 years. Mr. Starkey owned an automobile dealership in Covington from 1945-1959. Previously he was owner and operator of the Union Stockyards at Danville from 1928-1944. He was a member of Cates United Methodist Church and Tippecanoe Lodge 792 F&AM of Lafayette. He was also a member of Modern Woodmen of America. He was born October 20, 1900 at Cates, a son of Joseph and Emaline Barker Starkey. A former resident of Danville and Cates, he had resided in the Covington area since 1939. For the past 5 years he resided with his sister Viola in Covington. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and half brother. He is survived by a son, Eston E. Starkey of Covington; three sisters, Mrs. Homer P (Viola) Howard of Covington; Mrs. Clarence (Lola) Pugh of Tarpon Springs, Fla and Mrs. Elbert E. (Margaret) Smith of Attica; a brother J. Bryant Starkey of Covington and half sister, Mrs. Gertie Abernathy of Covington; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home. Services will be conducted by Rev. Luther Page. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery. - kbz

Covington—William E. Starkey, 72, died 11:25 p.m. Saturday, June 16, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Danville, Ill., where he had been a patient for two weeks. He had been in ill health for seven years.
  He was born Oct. 20, 1900, at Cates, the son of Joseph J. and Emaline Barker Starkey. He had been a resident of the Covington area since 1939 and a former resident of Danville and Cates. He made his home with a sister, Mrs. Viola Howard, the past five years. He was owner and operator of Union Stockyards at Danville from 1928 to 1944, and operat4ed an automobile agency in Covington from 1946 to 1959. He was a member of the Cates United Methodist Church, Tippecanoe Lodge No. 792 F&AM of Lafayette, and Modern Woodsmen of America, Inc.

  He is survived by one son, Eston E., Covington; three sisters, Mrs. Homer P. (Viola) Howard, Covington; Mrs. Clarence (Lola) Pugh, Tarpon Springs, Fla.; Mrs. Elbert E. (Marguerite) Smith, Attica; one brother, J. Bryant Starkey, Rt. 1,
Covington; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one half-brother.

  Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Bodine and Shelby Funeral Home in Covington with Rev. Luther Page officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Monday. – thanks to S
