Hillsboro – William Everett Starkey, 63, 401 Hobson Street, Hillsboro died at 10:45 p.m. Friday Feb 28, 2003 in Hillsboro. He was born Nov 11, 1939 in Stone Bluff, the son of Harry R and Sallie Brown Starkey, Sr. He married Suzanne Carroll Mills June 27, 1964 in the Veedersburg United Methodist Church. She survives. He had lived in Veedersburg from 1964-1967 and had resided in Hillsboro since then. He attended school in Stone Bluff and graduated from Veedersburg High School in 1957. He received his degree in education from Purdue University in 1961 and his masters degree from Indiana State University in 1963. He formerly taught at Veedersburg, Hillsboro and Richland township schools. He retired from the Southeast Fountain Elementary School in 2000. He enjoyed coaching baseball, basketball, football and wrestling and coached the Southeast Fountain Wrestling club. He was a member of the Advisory Board at the Boy Scouts of America, Hillsboro United Methodist Church, Veedersburg Masonic Lodge #491 F&AM and Terre Haute Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute. His hobbies included golfing, traveling and genealogy. He was the commissioner of Greater Veedersburg Golf Association. He formerly coached Little League Baseball at Veedersburg, Richland Township and Hillsboro. Survivors besides the wife include two sons, William (Cheryl) Starkey, Dayton and Eric Tod Starkey, Olympia, Wash; a brother, Harry R. Starkey, Jr. of Danville, Ill; two sisters, Jayne (Bill) Elliott, Covington and Betty (Lex) Templeton, South Bend and two granddaughters, Evalyn K and Lillian C. Starkey both of Dayton. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister. Funeral services were at 4 p.m. Monday in Maus Funeral Home, Hillsboro with Pastor Linda Lawler officiating. Burial was in Osborne Prairie Cemetery near Stone Bluff. Memorial contributions may be made to the Southeast Fountain Community Foundation ---transcribed by kbz
