Velma M. Starkey, 85, Rt 1, Covington, d. at 1:30 a.m. Wed, ov 20, 1996 at Davis Gardens Health Center in Terre Haute. She was born November 1, 1911 in Fulton Twp, Fountain County, daughter of the late Clarence & Ella L. Banister Kineer. She graduated from Covington HS in 1930 and attended Central Noramal College. Velmar married Joseph Bryant Starkey Nov 1, 1932 at Rockville. He died Feb 20, 1981. Surviving is a daughter Carol Marsue Kochel of Terre Haute, 3 grandchildren & 3 gr. grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Ted Kineer. She was a resident of Fountain County most of her life. She & Bryant owned & managed Starkey's IGS in Attica 1940-49; was one of the founding owners of Morris Bryatn Rest. & Motel in Lafayette; Owned the Western Auto Store in Shelbyville Ind during the 1950s, was a lifetime owner of Fultown Township Farms. She was a member of Cates Community Church, Woman's Club, Fountain County Garden Club, Alpha Gamma Associate Chapter of Tri-Kappa, Valetta Chapter #125 Order of Eastern Star and Cates Missionary Society. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday Nov 22 1996 at Shelby Funeral Home in Covington with burial in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Thursday. Memorial to Alzheimer's Clinic at Indiana University Medical Center.
