John Clarence Starkey, 72, died Tuesday in the St. Elizabeth Hospital in Danville where he had been admitted earlier in the day. Born Sept 24, 1886 in Danville, he was the son of Samuel and Mary Swisher Starkey. He was married Aug 17, 1911 to Mary Harris who preceded him in death in 1954. Mr. Starkey had been a resident of Portland since 1932. Survivors include a son, Maurice of Covington, a brother, Leo of Danville; three grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Services were held Thursday at Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home with burial in the Sunset Memorial Park in Danville. – kbz
