An accident early Saturday morning, July 3, near Covington claimed the lives of two Army Reserve nurses who were enroute to a training session in Wisconsin, Mrs. Billie Sue Stanley, 36, Lexington, Kentucky, and Mrs. Teri Hoskins, 30, Corbin, Kentucky, were pronounced dead at the scene by Fountain County Coroner Halsey Williams.
The Fountain County Sheriff’s Department said the women were in a Datsun subcompact car westbound on Interstate 74 and for some unknown reason crossed the median and entered the eastbound lane. There they were struck by an eastbound pickup truck driven by Jerry L. Goodlin of Oklahoma City. The nurses’ car was hit near the passenger door and the car split in two, just behind the windshield.
Williams said Mrs. Hoskins died of internal injuries and listed the cause of death of Mrs. Stanley of severe head and internal injuries.
Goodlin was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Danville, Illinois, as was a passenger in the truck, Lupy Ervin. Both were operated on for deep lacerations.
