Harold W. Spriggs was born at Fairfield, Ill July 22 in the year 1906. He left this life Oct 21 at 3:30 p.m. 1947 at the age of 41 years 4 months. He was married to Mrs. Stella Sandfer of St. James Missouri May 31, 1941. He leaves his loving wife and two step daughters. They are Miss Ella Mae Sandfer of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Mrs. Dorothy Macri of New York City. Also he leaves 4 children by a previous marriage. His father, 3 sisters, 1 brother, and a host of friends also survive. And so, besides the silent sea, I wait and muffled oar, No harm from Him can come to me On Ocean or on shore. -- Harold W. "Butch" Spriggs, 41, of Veedersburg, was instantly killed and Fred Pell, 56, of Newtown critically injured Tuesday afternoon on Highway 25 between Newtown and New Richmond. The accident occurred about 3:30 in the afternoon near the Montgomery-Fountain county lines near the Howard Snouwaert farm. There were no witnesses to the crash but from markings on the two trucks, State Troopers believe that both vehicles were traveling east and the Spriggs truck crashed into the Pell truck as it turned right onto a gravel road. Mrs. Spriggs was killed instantly and Mr. Pell was taken to the Culver Hospital in Crawfordsville where he is still unconscious with head injuries. The left front of Spriggs' three-quarter ton truck was smashed and the right rear side of Pell's one-and-one-half ton truck was damaged by the impact. Sprigg's truck overturned on its right side and skidded down the blacktop road for approximately 125'. Pell was thrown from his truck. Spriggs, a former resident of St. James,
Missouri had lived in Veedersburg for several months and was foreman on the power line construction project for the Tipmont REMC. The body was removed to the Fishero Funeral Home where services were held Thursday. Burial will be at St. James, Missouri.
