COVINGTON — Miss Lura Spinning, 82, lifelong resident of Covington, died at 10:30 p.m. Friday at the Care Nursing Home at Danville, Ill. She had been a patient there since last Nov. 10. Miss Spinning was employed by Ranier Drug Store here for many years. She later was employed by Burrin's Pharmacy before retiring about 1956. She was a member of the Covington Methodist Church and the Win One Class of the church. She also was a member of Troy Chapter 145 of Order of Eastern Star and Past Matrons and Past Patrons Club. Born April 20, 1885, at Covington, she was the daughter of Challen W. and Hortense Adamson Spinning. She was never married. Surviving are a sister with whom she made her home, Miss Nina Spinning; a nephew whom she helped rear, John N. Spinning of Jacksonville, Ill.; and three nieces, Mrs. Jean Ensfield of Logansport and Mrs. Dorothy Reeves and Mrs. Betty Weir, both of Oklahoma City. She was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home here with Rev. P. J. Hamilton officiating. Covington – Miss Lura Spinning, 82 of 801 Fourth St, Covington died 10:30 p.m. Friday Feb 23 in the Danville Care Nursing Home where she had been a patient since Nov 10, 1967. Miss Spinning was born April 20, 1885 in Covington, the daughter of Challen and Hortense Adamson Spinning. She was a life resident of Covington and had never married. She was a member of the Covington Methodist Church and its Win One Sunday School Class, Trop Chapter 145, Order of Eastern Star and past matrons and past patrons club. She was employed at the Rainier Drug Store for many years and later at Burrins Pharmacy. She retired in 1956. Surviving are one sister, Miss Nina Spinning who resides in the home place at 801 Fouth St, one nephew, Jack Spinning of Jacksonville, Ill whom she reared and three nieces, Mrs. Jean Ensfield of Logansport, Mrs. Dorothy Reeves and Mrs. Betty Weir of Oklahoma City, Okla. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and one sister. Funeral services were 2 p.m. Mondy at Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home here. The Rev. PJ Hamilton, pastor of the Covington Methodist Church officiated. Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery here. Serving as pall bearers were: Tom McGuirk, Richard Shelby, Robert B. Shelby, Harold Hegg, Jerry James and Joe Burrin. - kbz
