Joseph Clarence Spear, 76, New Richmond, died at the Veterans' Hospital in Danville, Ill., Thursday (April 2, 1970) where he had been a patient since March 10. Mr. Spear was born in Marrowbone, Ky., on Sept. 5, 1893, the son of Thomas J. and Mary Hamilton Spear. He had lived in Attica prior to moving to New Richmond 25 years ago. He was first married to Emma May, who preceded him in death in 1937, and later married Goldie Mattox, who survives. He was retired, and had worked at Harrison Steel Castings Co. for 30 years as a crane operator, and also worked for the City of Attica. He served in World War I in France in heavy artillery. He was a former member of the VFW and the American Legion. Surviving with the wife are two brothers, Roy, of Attica, and Robert, of Attica; two sisters, Mrs. May Cooksey, Crawfordsville, and Mrs. Bessie Garrott, Lafayette. Funeral services in the DeSutter Chapel Saturday with Rev. Harold Bachert officiating. Interment in Riverside Cemetery, Attica. -- typed by Walt W
