SOWERS, William Henry (1832-1903)

William Henry Sowers was born in Fountain County, Indiana June 1, 1831 (sic-1832) and died Feb 17, 1903 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Crowden (sic) near Randall, Hamilton Co Iowa. He was married in 1851 to
Miss Evelena NORSE (sic -- should be NORRIS) both residents of Fountain County. In 1880 his wife departed from this life; leaving him with the care of his 3 small children,: Lewis, Alice an George aged 6, 4 and 2
all of whom are still living. In 1864 he enlisted in the US Army and served one year. He came to Hamilton County Iowa in 1880 and remained 5 years when he returned to his old home in Indiana. In Dec 1887 his only daughter was left a widow and he again returned to Iowa in 1888 and assisted her in rearing her two children and to these two granddaughters he has indeed been grandfather and father. His two sons and 8
grandchildren reside in Indiana. He also leaves two brothers, George Sowers of Ames, Iowa and Lindsey Sowers of this vicinity. Thus a long and useful life is ended and one that will be greatly missed in the family circle.
