The funeral of Rebecca Sowers, who died Tuesday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. LD Crawford, northwest of Centropolis, was held Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock in charge of Rev. Hugh S. Guy, pastor of the Ottawa Christian Church.  Services were conducted at Appanoose Church, four miles northwest of Centropolis and burial was in the cemetery by the church.  Rebecca Bowman was born in Fountain County, Indiana October 26, 1841 and died November 30, 1920 aged 79 years, one month and 10 days. She was married to Matthias Samuel Sowers, December 28, 1859 and to the union nine children were born, five girls and four boys.  With her husband, Mrs. Sowers came to Kansas in 1880, settling in Douglas County.  In an early day she joined the Christian Church in Wallace, Ind. With her husband she united with the Christian Church at Centropolis in 1881. Mr. Sowers died a number of years ago.  Three children survive her: Mrs. Martha Crawford near Centropolis; Mrs. Sarah Turner of Texas and Mrs. Margaret Butz of Duberry, Canada. She is also survived by a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren.  - kbz
