North Salem—James Hubert Sowders, 68, North Salem, died at 9:15 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16, 1989 in Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis.
He was born April 30, 1920, the son of Harry E. and Mary Kendall Sowders. He was married Aug. 26, 1951 at North Salem to Marcia B. Kisner, who survives.
He was a 1938 graduate of North Salem High School and served with the Army from 1941-45 during World War II.
He retired in 1982 from Allison Division of General Motors at Speedway after 32 years with the industry. He was a member of the North Salem United Methodist Church.
Surviving besides his wife are two daughters, Janis McDowell, Evansville, and Kathy May, Williamsport; three sisters, Helen Sellers and Dorothy Sowders, North Salem, and Betty Carmichael, Ladoga, and five grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Thursday in Porter Funeral Home, North Salem, with burial in Fairview Cemetery. – thanks to S
