SOUTHGATE, Helen Cornett

Funeral services for Mrs. Helen Southgate of Covington were held at the DeVerter Funeral Home, 2:30 p.m., Monday, February 3, 1975. Mrs. Southgate, 70, died Saturday, February 1 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Danville, Ill.

  Mrs. Southgate was born at Bicknell, Ind. on Feb. 22, 1904 to William H. and Laura Myers Cornett.

 She was married to Earl Bray, who preceded her in death and she later married Alva A. Southgate, who died in 1968.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Martin (Gloria) Davis of Williamsport; a son, Jack R. Bray of Danville, a stepson, Leroy Southgate of Hart, Mich.; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Mary Alice Johnson of Washington, Ind.; a sister, Mrs. Lena Smith of Covington; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

  Two sisters, a brother and a great grandchild preceded her in death.

  Mrs. Southgate was the Covington area Avon representative for about 30 years. She was a member of Covington Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, Business and Professional Women’s Club, Fountain County Republican Club and Royal Neighbors of America.
  She attended Covington United Methodist Church. Her eyes have been donated to the Lions Club Eye Bank for medical research.
  Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Covington, with the Rev. Ron Michaels and Rev. Robert H. Miller officiating. – thanks to S
