MONTEZUMA – Funeral services for Melvin Southard, age 52, of Montezuma, brother of Mrs. Marie Guinn of Cates, who died unexpectedly at his home at 11:15 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15, were held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Brown’s Funeral Home in Montezuma. The Rev. S. Forest Beery officiated and burial was in Oakland Cemetery. Mr. Southard was born Sept. 13, 1914 at Bloomingdale, the son of Roy and Myrtle Davies Southard. He was a member of the Half-Century Club and the Common Laborers Local 204. Surviving are: his wife, Elizabeth; his mother, Mrs. Myrtle Southard of Dana; three daughters, Mrs. Wanda Henson of Florida, Mrs. Rosalie Bray and Mrs. Mary Wheatfill, both of Montezuma; two sons, Joe of Montezuma and Ray of Hillsdale; five sisters, Mrs. Hazel Durham and Mrs. Mabel Norman, both of Newport, Mrs. Louise Strow of Chrisman, Ill., Mrs. Marie Guinn of Cates, and Mrs. Betty Nolland of Cayuga; two brothers, Paul of Dana and Russell of Williamsport, and one grandchild. – jlr
