Elsie M. Songer of RR 4, Veedersburg, age 84, died Tuesday night, September 21, in St. Elizabeth Hospital at Danville, Illinois. She was born at Chambersburg, June 30, 1898, the daughter of Joseph and Flora Bell Keeling Clawson. December 25, 1917, she married Glenwood Songer, who died January 21, 1928. Mrs. Songer was a member of Sterling Christian Church, Valetta Chapter OES, American War Mothers and American Legion Auxiliary. She had served as a Republican precinct Committee woman, had worked at Indiana Condensed Milk Company in Veedersburg and at St. Elizabeth Hospital cafeteria. Surviving are two daughters, Julia Deane Crane and Wanda Kestler, both of Veedersburg; three sons, LeRoy and James O., both of Veedersburg, and Harold of Danville; two stepsisters, Vera Songer of Covington and Verna Reynolds of Plymouth; 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. The body was taken from Parham Funeral Home in Veedersburg to Sterling Christian Church for funeral services Friday afternoon with Rev. Richard Throckmorton officiating. Burial was in Bonebrake Cemetery. – jlr
