ATTICA — James Phillip “Bud” “Snuffy” Sollers, 83, 801 S. Perry St., Attica, died at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday, June 27, 2000 in St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Lafayette. He had been hospitalized one week and in failing health for the past two months. He was born Aug. 6, 1916 in Parke County, the son of Joseph Richard and Mary Ellen Yeager Sollers. His first marriage was to Beulah Johnson on March 31, 1938 in Clinton. She preceded in death May 15, 1978. He later married Pearl (Snyder) Best Meharry May 18, 1980 in Jackson Heights, Tippecanoe County. She survives. He was raised and attended school in Parke County, later moving to the Independence area. He had resided in Attica for the past 20 years. He was a former over-the-road truck driver for many years and later worked at Ross Gear (TRW) in Lafayette until his retirement in 1978. He attended Jackson Heights United Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing and flower gardening. He had been a volunteer at the Potawatomi Festival for many years. Survivors, besides the wife, include: four daughters, Edith Kell, Brookston, Gladys (Charles) Stone, Otterbein, Marilyn (Vern) Emerson, Pine Village and Dorothy Kincade (John) Merrill, Lafayette; three step daughters, Irene (Lee Roy) Harmeson, Attica, Karyle (Larry) Hardman, Mt. Airy, Md., and Marcy (Michael) Helms, Lafayette; four step sons, James (Muriel) Best, Independence, Robert (Mary) Best, West Point, Danny (Karen) Best, Attica and Fran (Marit) Best, Attica; nine grandchildren; 21 step grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 16 step great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a step son, Albert LaVere Best; two step grandsons; a great-granddaughter; four sisters and a brother. Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Friday in Maus Funeral Home, Attica, with the Rev. John Niblick officiating. Burial was in Independence Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Jackson Heights United Methodist Church, American Cancer Society or American Heart Association. – jlr
