West Point—William Alford Snider, 69, West Point, died at 11:10 p.m. Tuesday, April 4, 1989, in St. Elizabeth Hospital Medical Center, Lafayette, following an illness of one year.
He was born Sept. 17, 1919 at Attica, the son of Jesse and Laura Cain Snider. He had formerly resided in Orlando, Fla. about 10 years, moving to West Point six years ago. He was married March 25, 1939 in Williamsport to Lucille Griffis, who survives.
He attended Vine School in Fountain County. He was a former employee of Verplank Concrete Co., Western India Gravel Co., and was with the Tippecanoe School Corporation transportation department from 1961 until 1974.
He operated the grocery store in Shadeland from 1961 until 1974. He later moved to Orlando, where he was employed as a custodian for about four years at Disney World until his retirement in 1978.
He was a member of the former Riverside EUB Church and a former member of the Indiana National Guard at Attica. He also was a member of the Shadeland Volunteer Fire Department.
Surviving besides his wife are four sons, Dennis L., Rick D., and Harold, all of West Point, and Edward W., Saint Cloud, Fla.; a daughter, Dolores Bridges, Lafayette; a brother, Glen, West Point; a sister, Mrs. Gordon (Thelma) Brier, Odell; seven grandchildren and a great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Bob Dean.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today in Maus Funeral Home Chapel, Attica, with the Rev. Ernest Laughner officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Attica. Visitation was 5-9 p.m. Thursday. -s
