Otterbein—Samuel L. Norwood, 93, formerly of Otterbein, died at 4:08 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12, 1989 in the home of a niece and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Ardie (Phyllis) Hartlep, Pine Village.
He was born Jan. 30, 1896 in Benton County. He was married March 2, 1946 in Otterbein to Lucy Morgan, who preceded him in death in 1973.
He was educated in Benton County and lived most of his life in the Otterbein area. For the past five years, he had lived with the Hartleps and before that he lived with his sister, Evelyn McCoskey, in Pine Village for 12 years.
He served as Otterbein town marshal for several years and was a pipe fitter for Alcoa in Lafayette for 20 years, retiring in 1962.
He was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church.
Surviving with his niece, Phyllis, and sister, Evelyn, are another sister, Ola Taylor, Gary; one brother, Loyd, Lafayette, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Steely Funeral Home Chapel, Otterbein, with the Rev. Michael Brown officiating. Burial was in Pond Grove Cemetery. -s
