COVINGTON — Edward Fred Nicklas, 77, of Covington, director and stockholder of the Covington Grain Co. and retired farmer, died suddenly today in his home here. He was a member of Osborne Prairie Church. Born Oct. 23, 1896, at Danville, Ill., he was a son of Christian and Emma Shoupe Nicklas. He married Lulu Ann Thomas on April 20, 1921. She survives. Other survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Martha Cronkhite of Greencastle and Mrs. Grace Warrick of South Bend; and a brother, Robert of Covington. He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home here with the Rev. Robert Karn officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Tuesday. = typed by Walt W.

Covington, Ind.—Edward Fred Nicklas, 77, a resident of Fountain County most of his life, died unexpectedly at 9:30 a.m. (April 15, 1974) at his home. Death was attributed to natural causes.
  Born Oct. 3, 1896, in Danville, he was the son of Christian and Emma Shoupe Nicklas. He was married April 20, 1921, to Lula Ann Thomas, who survives.
  He had farmed in the Osborne Prairie community until he retired in 1964 and moved into Covington.
  Mr. Nicklas was a director and stockholder in the Covington Grain Co. and attended the Osborne Prairie Church.
  Survivors also include two sisters, Mrs. Martha Cronkhite of Greencastle and Mrs. Grace Warrick of South Bend; a brother, Robert of Covington; and several nieces and nephews.
  He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
  Services were 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home. The Rev. Robert Karn officiated. Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
