TANGIER — Paul Eston Newnum, 70, Tangier, died at 11:15 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, 2006 in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. He had been a patient for four days. He was born Jan. 12, 1936 in Parke County, the son of Connie and Gladys (Chapman) Newnum. He was first married to Mary Cook. He was later married to Marcia Day, who preceded him in death in 1992. He then married Joyce Swaim Dec. 9, 1995. She survives. He was a 1954 graduate of Tangier High School He was a retired bus driver for Turkey Run School Corporation, lime hauler and farmer. He was the bass singer for the Newnum Brothers Quartet. He was a member of and past vice president of the Covered Bridge Antique Power Association and the Tangier Community Cub, The Hart Parr Oliver Collectors Association, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute. A lifetime member and past Worshipful Master of the Kingman Masonic Lodge #314, F. & A.M. and past patron of the O.E.S. Chapter 204; National Rifle Association and the Rush Creek Friends Church. He attended the Kingman United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Methodist Quartet. His hobbies were singing, playing the bass, listening to and playing bluegrass music and antique tractors. Survivors, besides the wife, include: a daughter, Paula Christine Newnum, Rantoul, Ill.; three brothers, Leon (Vi) Newnum, Rockville; Keith (Evelyn) Newnum, Tangier, and Ronnie (Patty) Newnum, Indianapolis; a sister, Delores (Don) Russell, Maui, Hawaii; three brothers-in-law, Paul (Edna) Woodard, Bill (Sandy) Woodward and Joe Daniels, all of Cayuga; a special nephew and niece, Steve and Debbie Newnum; and many other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Richard Conway Newnum. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today (Wednesday) in Kingman United Methodist Church with Kenny Major officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Rush Creek Cemetery, Tangier. DeVerter Brothers Funeral Home, Cayuga, is in charge of arrangements.
