Marcius C., son of Peter and Mary Stiner Newnum, was born to die on December 24, 1863 and died to live April 9, 1949. He was united in marriage to Mary Ann Massey November 7, 1887. To this union were born three children, Robert, Ruth, and one daughter, Myrtie Bell, who died at the age of six years. With the exception of the first year of their married life, he spent all of the more than four score years in Millcreek Township. He was taken by his father and mother to Centennial Church from his earliest youth and when a boy he was converted and united with the church. It was his privilege to grow up in a home of unusual devotion and loyalty to the church and its cause. The many expressions of religious joy of Uncle Peter and Aunt Mary will never be forgotten by not only the children, but by all who knew them.
The friends of Marcius Newnum knew him as a quiet and unassuming man, a good husband, a loving father and an understanding neighbor. He was preceded in death by the wife and mother of his children on August 12, 1928. Since then he has lived with the children to love and be loved by them and their families. Also preceding him in death were one grandson, Benny Lee Pearson and six brothers and one sister. He is survived by the son, Robert and the daughter, Mrs. Ruth Pearson; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren; with one brother, Octavius of Hammond, besides a host of other relatives and friends. – thanks to S&E
