James Earl Newnum, age 78, a resident of Danville, Ill., for the past 35 years and a former resident of Wallace, died at 11:50 a.m. Sat April 29 in the Allen Nursing Home, Attica where he had been a patient two days following an extended illness. Born Jan 2, 1883 at Yeddo, he was the son of William and Catherine Woodrow Newnum. He was married Dec 13, 1905 to Bertha Clore, who preceded him in death April 10, 1961. Newnum had been employed by C & EI RR and had been retired for 13 years. He was a member of Wallace Masonic Lodge 495. Survivors include 3 daughters, Mrs. James Hendrickson of Covington; Mrs. Wilberta Sowers of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla and Mrs. Kathleen Pugh of Pompono Fla; a granddaughter and great grandchild. He also was preceded in death by a daughter and brother. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. at Hegg Funeral Home in Covington. The Rev. Glenn Ray officiated. Burial in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Masonic services were held at the Wallace Lodge.
