Edgar Orestus Newnum, 67, died at Culver hospital Wednesday at 3:45 p.m. from burns received while dragging a Fountain County Road on Wednesday, Sept 26. He suffered severe burns on the chest and arms when his clothing caught fire as he attempted to extinguish a fire which started in the tractor he was using. He was employed as a truck driver with the Fountain County Highway garage. Born on Aug 2, 1884, in Parke County, he was the son of John Bennet and Eluizia Atkinson Newnum. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Yeddo and the Centennial EUB Church, Yeddo. Surviving are his wife, Fanny; one daughter, Mrs. Thelma Carter of Kingman; two sons, Edgar Wayne and Glen; both of Kingman; one sister, Mrs. Mary Robbins of Marshall; two brothers, roy of Cayuga and Marshall of Illinois; and four grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Woodrow Funeral Home, Kingman after 1 p.m. Thursday. Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the Centennial EUB Church, Yeddo with Rev. Bennett Fulp officiating. Burial will follow in the Centennial EUB Church cemetery.

Edgar O. Newnum, 67 years old, a Fountain highway department employee, died about 3:45 p.m. Tuesday in Culver Hospital, Crawfordsville as the result of burns suffered on Wed Sept 26 while at work.  He was a resident of the Yeddo community and the accident occurred just south of Yeddo, near his home, when the tractor he was operating caught fire, apparently igniting a 5-gallon can of gasoline which exploded burning Mr. Newnum critically about his face, arms and legs.  Edgar Orestus Newnum was born Aug 2, 1884 in Parke County, the son of John Benton and Eluizia Atkinson Newnum.  He is survived by his wife, Fannie Mae; a daughter, Mrs. Thelma Carter of Kingman rural route; two sons, Edgar of Kingman rural route, and Glenn of Kingman; two brother, Roy of Cayuga and Marshall of Potomac; a sister, Mrs. Mary Robbins of Marshall, Ind and four grandchildren.  His parents, two children, three brothers and one sister preceded him in death.  He had been a member of the county highway department for eight years.  Mr. Newnum was a member of the Yeddo Masonic Lodge and Centennial EUB Church where funeral services were to be held at 2 p.m. today, Friday with burial in Centennial Cemetery.
