Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 13, at the Osborne Prairie Church for Joseph S. Newman, age 73, of Veedersburg, who died at 8:30 a. m. Sunday, Dec. 11, at Culver Hospital in Crawfordsville where he had undergone surgery a week ago. The Rev. Bennett Fult of Crawfordsville officiated. Burial was in the Osborne Prairie Cemetery with the J. Fred Parham Funeral Home of Veedersburg in charge. Mr. Newman was born near Attica Jan. 1, 1887, the son of Sylvester E. and Mary Hilderbrant Newman. He was married June 8, 1909 to Blanche Boord, who survives. Mr. Newman had been a farmer in the Stone Bluff area for many years, retiring and moving to Veedersburg in 1945. He was a member of the Stone Bluff EUB Church and the Van Buren Township Advisory Board. Other survivors include a son, Joe Allen Newman of Hillsboro; five daughters, Mrs. Anna Lou Crider of Covington Rt., Mrs. Frances Ingersoll and Mrs. Lois Mitton, both of Waynetown, Mrs. Josephine Grubbs of Newtown and Mrs. Barbara Dice of Veedersburg; a sister, Mrs. Laura Furr of Covington Rt. 3, and 16 grandchildren. --typed by Walt W
