Source: Paxton, Illlinois Record Thu 8 June 1916 p 1

The funeral of Levi Newlin was held on Monday afternoon at the home on East Holmes Street at 2 o’clock, Rev. FM Webster, pastor of the Congregational Church officiating.  The pastor took as his scripture lesson the 23rd Psalm and part of the 15th chapter of Corinthians.  His text was John 14:14 “If a man die, shall he live again.”  Mrs. Harry P. Larson sang beautifully the selections, Beautiful Isle of Somewhere and Rock  of Ages.  Levi Newlin died at 1:15 a.m. June 3 (1916).  He was born in Fountain County, Indiana. His parents moved to Putnam County, Illinois where his father died. The family then moved to Paxton when Levi was yet a small boy; so that he lived in Paxton nearly all his life. He was never married and made his home with his mother and sister Mary until his mother died in 1890. Since that time he and his sister have made their home together. He is survived by his sisters, Miss Mary and Mrs. L.A. Harnit of Ludlow and Mrs. Angeline Johnson of Hamilton and brothers Joseph, Samuel and Abner all of Paxton.  His brother, Jefferson died while yet small and two brothers, William and Bosey died Feb 5, 1863 and Oct 8, 1862. His sister Lulu Zercher died in 1911.  He lost his right arm Aug 9, 1872 as a result of an accident while assisting to fire a cannon salue for Ex-Gov Oglesby when (sorry, large crease across this part) ____ Pall bearers __ Atwood, R. Keator, __ Gray __ HB Shaw and AF Carter.  Flower carriers were Mrs. Willis Cole, Mrs. L. Robbins, Miss Margaret Nicholson and Mrs. Livingston. The Record joins friends in extending heartfelt sympathy. - kbz
