John H. NEWLIN, 76, a resident of Hillsboro and vicinity until about 30 years ago when he moved to Indianapolis died at his home in the city Friday night about 11 o’clock. He had been ill for a year and a half, but visited relatives here a few weeks ago. He was born on a farm in the Antioch neighborhood near Hillsboro on Aug 24, 1874, a twin son of John W. and Nancy Rivers Newlin. He was employed as a railway mail clerk on the New York Central, Peoria & Eastern Division for a number of years. He had been a member of the Christian Church and Masonic Lodge of Hillsboro but on moving to the city changed his membership to the Third Christian Church where he was an ardent worker. He was a teacher of the Men’s Bible class as long as his health would permit. His twin brother, the Rev. Will H. Newlin was a Christian minister and died six years ago at his home in Crawfordsville. Mr. Newlin was one of a family of 7 children, 5 sons and 2 daughters. Three brothers preceded him in death; Emerson E who resided at Waynetown; Samuel J of Indianapolis and Rev. Will H of Crawfordsville. Surviving besides the widow, Mrs. Esta Newlin of Indianapolis are the two sisters, Mrs. Lenna Saltsgaver and Mrs. May Janeway of Hillsboro and one brother, George Newlin of Baltimore and several nieces and nephews. The body was removed to the Flanner & Buchanan Mortuary in Indianapolis where the funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Monday Aug 20 with burial in Crown Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis. - kbz
