VEEDERSBURG, Ind. – Ralph S. Nelson, 85, of 415 W. Ninth, died at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday (July 2, 1975) at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Robert (Helen) Keeling in Indianapolis. He had been ill the past six months. Born June 27, 1890, in Shelby County, he was the son of John Allen and Effie Fisher Nelson. On Dec. 24, 1912, he married Mabel Fishero of Danville, Ill., who died in 1953. Mr. Nelson came to Veedersburg in 1907 from Grant County. He had been with the New York Central Railroad for 40 years and had been a licensed funeral director since 1923. He had operated the Fishero Funeral Home in Veedersburg and was later associated with the Fishero-Dickerson Funeral Home. He had been a member of the board of education for several years. Mr. Nelson was a member of the First Christian Church; Veedersburg Masonic Lodge 491, receiving his 50-year pin in 1970. He was a past master of the lodge. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Keeling and Miss Betty Lou Nelson of Veedersburg, a step-sister, Mrs. Paul (Cathryn) Markle of Terre Haute, a step-brother, C. Walter Nelson of Lafayette, and a niece. He was preceded in death by two sisters. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Fishero-Dickerson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Glen Youngblood officiating. Burial will be in Rockfield Cemetery. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 7 to 9 tonight and from 1-4 and 6-9 p.m. Friday. Masonic services will be at 8 tonight at the funeral home.   – jlr
