McNETT, Mr.

Source: Covington People’s Friend 10 June 1848 p 2

Drowned – as the steamer Lady Madison passed up the Wabash on Sunday last, her waves sunk a coal boat about two miles above Lodi which was also bound up stream, heavily laden with coal from the banks of that region.  The coal boat sunk almost instantaneously, drowning a Mr. McNett of Lodi who was we are pained to write rendered helpless at the time by intoxication. The other (five hands escaped with difficulty – one was rescued from the water almost drowned).  The unfortunate man leaves a wife and several children in Lodi.  A rumor that three men were drowned just below Perrysville  originated in this and is consequently only about 1/3 true.
