Omar McMasters of Newport, age 79, died Tuesday afternoon, June 29, in Americana Convalescent Center at Danville, Illinois. He was born in Parke County, November 1, 1902, the son of Lewis and Florence Haga McMasters. August 8, 1927, he married Evelyn Cole, who survives.

  McMasters retired in 1966 after teaching school for 28 years in Newport, North Vermillion and Cayuga schools, and after retirement worked in safety and security as chief of inspections at Newport Ammunition Plant for 12 years. He was a member of Newport United Methodist Church, Newport Masonic Lodge, Terre Haute Scottish Rite and Low 12 Club. He graduated from Wabash College in 1925 and received his master’s degree from Indiana State University in 1944.

  Also surviving are a daughter, Ann McMasters of Covington; three sons, Robert of Leavenworth, Kansas, Donald of Bloomington and Dale of Ames, Iowa; a brother, Foster of Beech Grove; six grandchildren and three step great grandchildren.

  Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at DeVerter Brothers Funeral Home in Cayuga with Rev. James Walters officiating. Burial was in Thomas Cemetery at Newport. – thanks to S
