Cayuga—Malissa Mildred McLain, 59, Route 1, Cayuga, died unexpectedly at 12:23 p.m. Saturday, June 3, 1989 at Vermillion County Hospital, Clinton.

  She was born May 11, 1930 in Cayuga, the daughter of John Thomas and Dorothy Jean Ferguson Simpson. She was married Oct. 17, 1948 in Terre Haute to Harold G. McLain, who preceded her in death Nov. 15, 1979.

  She had been employed as a cook at Cayuga Elementary School since 1959 and had worked as a cook at Hanging Rock Christian Church Camp since 1980. She was a foster parent from 1972 until 1979.

  She was a member of Cayuga American Legion Auxiliary, where she was currently serving as chaplain, Royal Neighbors of America, Vermillion County 4-H Council, past Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader and taught Sunday school.

  Surviving are three daughters, Delma Kilby, Route 1, Cayuga; Mrs. Robert (JoAnn) Moore, Indianapolis, and Lola E. McLain, Route 2, Georgetown, Ill.; a son, Earl R., Route 1, Cayuga; 11 grandchildren; a cousin, Dorothy Kelley, Cayuga, and two nieces. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a brother, James Simpson, and a sister, Julia Ann Vorek.

  Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at DeVerter Brothers Funeral Home, Cayuga, with the Rev. Jack Holycross officiating. Burial will be in Coal Creek Cemetery, south of Covington.

  American Legion Auxiliary memorial services were at 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. -s
