NEWTOWN - Stuart L. McKnight, 68, farmer, part-owner of the McKnight-Witt Insurance Co. here and cashier at the Newtown Bank until 1970, died at 5:30 a.m. today in Lakeview Memorial Hospital at Danville, Ill. He had been a patient there since last Friday. McKnight served as trustee for Richland Township from 1952-1960. He was a former treasurer of the Fountain County Republican Central Committee. He was a veteran of World War II and was in the Army Air Corps. He left the service in 1946 with the rank of major. McKnight was a member and former worshipful master of Richland Lodge F & AM, and member and former elder of the Newtown Presbyterian Church. He was born two miles northeast of Newtown on June 18, 1904, a son of Linton and Hannah Shaeffer McKnight. He graduated from Chowchilla, Calif., High School and Indiana Business College. He married Grace Overman on June 24, 1930. She survives. Other survivors include a son, David of Lafayette; a daughter, Mrs. Jerry (Marcia) Oxley of Lafayette; a grandson, and a sister, Mrs. Robert Martin of Rt. 1, Attica. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Newtown Presbyterian Church. Graveside rites will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Rest Haven Memorial Cemetery at Lafayette. Crumley-Williams Funeral Home at Hillsboro is in charge of arrangements. The family requests that memorials be in the form of donations to the Indian Lions Eye Bank Inc., Indiana University Medical Center, 1100 W. Newtown – Newtown businessman Stuart L. McKnight, 68, died at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday in Lake View Memorial Hospital, Danville, Ill where he was admitted Friday.  Mr. McKnight was born northeast of Newtown and graduated from Chowchilla, Calif HS and Indianapolis Business College.  He served in the contract audit division of the Army Air Force during WWII and was discharged as a major in 1946 when he returned to Newtown and operated a farm.  He was Richland Township trustee from 1952-1960, cashier of the Newtown Bank from 1954-1970 and had been treasurer of the Fountain County Republican Central Committee.  At the time of his death he was part owner of McKnight & Witt Insurance Co, Newtown.  Mr. McKnight was a member and past elder of the Newtown Presbyterian Church and past master of Richland Lodge F&AM.  He was married in 1930 to Grace Overman of Carthage who survives. Also surviving are a son, David and a daughter, Mrs. Jerry (Marsha) Oxley, both of Lafayette and sister, Mrs. Robert Martin of Rt 1, Attica. - kbz

Stuart McKnight – Service 10 a.m. Friday in Newtown Presbyterian Church with graveside rites at 2 p.m. in Rest Haven Memorial Park. Crumley-Williams Funeral Home, Hillsboro, in charge of arrangements. Also survived by a grandson. Those desiring may contribute in memoriam to the Indiana Eye Bank.

Newtown, Ind – Services for Stuart L. McKnight, 68, partner in McKnight-Witt Insurance Co. will be tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. in Newtown Presbyterian Church.  He died Tuesday in Lakeview Hospital at Danville, Ill.  McKnight, who operated a farm, was a cashier at the Newtown bank until his retirement in 1970. He was a former treasurer of the Fountain County Republican Central committee and served from 1952-1960 as Richland Township trustee.  He served in the Army Air Corps in WWII, and was a past master of Richland Masonic Lodge. Survivor – wife Grace.
