Leona Belle McKnight of Wingate, age 64, died Thursday morning, August 11, in St. Elizabeth Hospital at Lafayette. She was born November 20, 1918, the daughter of Charles and Ina Bennett Allen. March 11, 1941, she married Charles H. McKnight, who died February 15, 1980. A member of Pleasant Hill Christian Church and Women’s Guild in Wingate, she was cafeteria manager of Coal Creek Central for 22 years.
Surviving are her mother of Newtown; two daughters, Shirley Allen of Findlay, Ohio and Vicki L. McKnight of Cincinnati; two sons, Charles A. of Speedway and Larry D. of Indianapolis; three sisters, Frances Davis of Seymour, Louise Tobias of Charlestown and Doris Williams of Newtown; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at Crumley-Williams Funeral Home in Hillsboro with private graveside services and burial in Wolf Creek Cemetery near Wallace. – thanks to S

Wingate – Coal Creeek Central School employee Mrs. Leona Belle McKnight, 64 of Wingate died at 11:15 a.m. Thursday in St. Elizabeth Hospital, following a short illness. The manager of CC Central School cafeteria, Mrs. McKnight had been employed at the school for 22 years and would have returned to work there this month. A native of Indiana, she was a lifelong resident of Fountain and Montgomery counties graduating in 1937 from Newtown HS. In 1941 she was married to Charles McKnight who died in 1960. Mrs. McKnight was a member of Pleasant Hill Christian Church and Wingate Women’s Guild. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Shirley) Allen of Findlay, Ohio and Miss Vicki McKnight of Cincinnati, Ohio; her mother, Mrs. Ina Allen of Newtown; three sisters, Mrs. Francis Davis of Seymour, Mrs. Louise Tobias of Charlestown and Mrs. Doris Williams of Newtown.
