NEWTOWN -- Charles H. McKnight, 53, of Wingate, formerly of this community, died of a heart ailment at noon Tuesday in a truck in front of a physician's office in Wingate where he had been taken after becoming ill at work. Death came before he could be assisted into the office. Born Jan. 18, 1907, west of Newtown, he was a son of T. G. and Mabel Applegate McKnight. He attended Newtown High School and was married March 11, 1941, to Leona Allen. Mr. McKnight was engaged in the distribution of agricultural lime with his father. He moved to Wingate in 1953. He was a member of Union Christian Church of near Newtown. Surviving are the widow; the father, of Newtown; four children, Shirley Ann, Charles Allen, Larry Dean and Vicki Lee, at home, and three sisters, Mrs. LaVera Hancock of Chico, Calif., Mrs. Anita Allen of Wingate and Mrs. Zala Ingersoll of Hillsboro. A brother, Harold, is deceased. Services are announced for 2 p. m. Thursday at the Crumley Funeral Home in Hillsboro, where friends may call after 1 p. m. Wednesday. Rev. Nisbet of Wingate will officiate and interment will be in Wolf Creek Cemetery south of Wallace. Carl Nisbet officiating. Organ selections were played by Mrs. Joe Newman. Serving as pallbearers were Fred Hushaw, Rex Davis, Roscoe Tobias, Preston Williams, Simon Minnick and Mearl Lasley.
