ATTICA — Freeman N. McKinney, 79, 1000 S. McDonald St., Attica, died at 5:59 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 16, 2000 in Rio Grande Regional Medical Center, McAllen, Texas. He had been a patient since Thursday. He was born March 10, 1920 in Warren County, the son of Robert F. and Nellie J. Brooks McKinney. He married Janet D. Gray Jan. 20, 1943 in Greenville, Miss., who survives. He was raised in Kingman, graduating from Kingman High School in 1938. He had lived in Attica since 1946 and had been wintering in San Juan, Texas, since 1982. He worked as a self-employed carpenter for 20 years. He later owned the Gambles Store in Attica from 1962-1973. He later worked for Larry Briles Construction Company from 1973 until his retirement in 1982. He was a member of the Attica Free Methodist Church, where he helped to construct the present church. He also designed and help construct the Free Methodist parsonage. He was a member of the American Legion Post #52 of Attica. He enjoyed playing golf and bowling for over 30 years. Survivors, besides the wife, include: three daughters, Jane (Ted) Hacker, Englewood, Ohio, Judy (Marvin) Campbell, Daleville, Nancy (Robert) Talbott, Bay City, Texas; two brothers, Roderick McKinney, San Juan, Texas, George McKinney, Attica; a sister, Yolanda Bee (Jerry) Koerner, New Market; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Friday in Maus Funeral Home, Attica, with the Rev. Marcos Gilmore officiating. Burial with military gravesite services were in Riverside Cemetery, Attica. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association. – jlr
